Procedure
A mixture of 5 g of 5-aminotetrazole and 150 ml of 2-propanol was heated to 80° C. under nitrogen. To the resulting heterogeneous mixture was added 7 g of trimethoxymethane and 9.3 g of methyl anthranilate. The mixture was stirred for 35 minutes and then cooled to 30° C. The white crystals which formed were separated by filtration, washed with 2-propanol and vacuum oven dried to give N1 -(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-N2 -(2-carbomethoxyphenyl)formamidine.
