Procedure
A mixture of 12.1 g of 5-aminotetrazole monohydrate, 42 g of triethoxymethane, 21 g of methyl anthranilate and 50 ml of 2-propanol was stirred at room temperature under nitrogen for 2 days. The white solid which formed was separated by filtration, washed with 2-propanol and vacuum oven dried to give N1 -(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-N2 -(2-carbomethoxyphenyl)formamidine which was identical with authentic material.
