A solution of 1-(dibenzo[b,d]furan-4-yl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole (2.3 g, 9.78 mmol) and iodomethane (3.0 mL, 49 mmol) in ethyl acetate (20 mL) was heated at 55° C. for 60 h. After cooling to room temperature, the precipitate was collected by filtration to yield 1-(dibenzo[b,d]furan-4-yl)-4-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-4-ium iodide (1.6 g, 43%) as a white solid.
