To a solution of 11-benzyloxycarbonyl-6,9-dihydroxy-4-dimethoxymethyl-14-oxa-1,11-diazatetracyclo[7.4.1.02,7.010,12 ]tetradeca-2,4,6-trien-8-ylmethyl carbamate (400 mg) in a mixture of pyridine (10 ml) and acetic anhydride (5 ml) was added 4-dimethylaminopyridine (10 mg). The mixture was stirred overnight at ambient temperature and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography and elution was carried out with a mixture of chloroform and methanol (50:1, v/v). The desired fractions were combined and then evaporated to dryness in vacuo to afford 11-benzyloxycarbonyl-8-carbamoyloxymethyl-4-dimethoxymethyl-14-oxa-1,11-diazatetracyclo[7.4.1.02,7.010,12 ]tetradeca-2,4,6-trien-6,9-diyl diacetate (458 mg).
