The method described in Part D of Example 64 was used to hydrogenate (35 psi, 2.4×105 Pa) ethyl 1-{[(3-nitroquinolin-4-yl)amino]methyl}cyclobutanecarboxylate (10.0 g, 30.4 mmol) in the presence of 5% platinum on carbon (1.0 g) to provide ethyl 1-{[(3-aminoquinolin-4-yl)amino]methyl}cyclobutanecarboxylate as a yellow solid.
