Palladium on carbon (10 wt %, 300 mg, 0.282 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-(4-phenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4-(phenylmethyl)morpholine (900 mg, 2.82 mmol) and 36% aqueous HCl (0.713 mL, 8.45 mmol) in CH3OH (50 mL) under nitrogen, and the reaction mixture was stirred under hydrogen at 25° C. for 1.5 hours. The mixture was filtered, washed by methanol (150 mL), and concentrated to afford an HCl salt of the title compound (600 mg) as a brown solid. LC-MS (ES) m/z=230 [M+H]+.
