Palladium on carbon (10 wt %, 0.700 g, 0.658 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-{4-[4-(methyloxy)phenyl]-1H-imidazol-2-yl}-4-(phenylmethyl)morpholine (2.3 g, 6.58 mmol) and hydrochloric acid (2.78 mL, 32.9 mmol) in CH3OH (80 mL) under nitrogen, and the reaction mixture was stirred under hydrogen at 25° C. for 1.5 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, washed by CH3OH (150 mL) and concentrated to afford an HCl salt of the title compound (1.9 g) as a brown solid. LC-MS (ES) m/z=260 [M+H]+.
