Palladium on carbon (0.527 g, 0.495 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-(4-methyl-5-phenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4-(phenylmethyl)morpholine (1.65 g, 4.95 mmol) and hydrochloric acid (4.12 mL, 49.5 mmol) in CH3OH (80 mL) under nitrogen, and the reaction mixture was stirred under hydrogen for 2 hours at 25° C. TLC indicated that the starting material was consumed. The mixture was filtered, washing with EtOAc (50 mL) and CH3OH (50 mL), and concentrated. Water (80 mL) was added, and the resulting mixture was lyophilized to afford the title compound (980 mg) as a brown solid. LC-MS (ES) m/z=244 [M+H]+.
