A mixture of 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-mercapto-N-methoxy-N-methyl-1H-imidazole-5-carboxamide (8) (153 mg, 0.54 mmol), 2,3,6-trifluorobenzyl bromide (71 μL, 0.54 mmol), and potassium carbonate (90 mg, 0.65 mmol) in acetone (5 mL) was heated at reflux for 3 h. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (0-100% EtOAc in hexanes) to afford 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-N-methoxy-N-methyl-2-((2,3,6-trifluorobenzyl)thio)-1H-imidazole-5-carboxamide (9) as a white solid.
