Procedure
A mixture of 4-bromo-7-hydroxy-2-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-thieno[3,2-c]pyridine-6-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (example 25.a, 108 mg, 0.24 mmol) and copper(I) cyanide (45 mg, 0.5 mmol) suspended in 1 mL DMF was heated at 135° C. for 15 minutes in a CEM microwave reactor. The resultant mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water, and the organic fraction was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated to a crude residue. The desired product was purified by column chromatography eluting from silica gel with a gradient of 10-60% ethyl acetate in hexanes to give 48 mg of a white solid; MS: (+) m/z 392.9 (M+1)
