Procedure
A mixture of 2-bromo-7-cyclopentylacetamido-1-tetralone (1.1 g) and collidine (12 ml) was heated at 160° C. for 2 h. After cooling, the reaction mixture was diluted with 1:9 tetrahydrofuran:ethyl acetate, washed (1N HCl (4 times), brine), dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give 7-cyclopentylacetamido-1-napthol (quantitative) as a brown glassy solid which was used without further purification.
