Procedure

Sodium hydride (0.48 g of 60% mineral oil dispersion, 12 mmol) in a round bottom flask was washed free of the mineral oil with hexanes before DMSO (20 mL, distilled from calcium hydride) was added. Trimethyloxosulfonium chloride (1.54 g, 12 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred under dry nitrogen for 20 min at room temperature. A solution of XXVIII (2.45 g, 10 mmol) in DMSO (5 mL) was then added to this milky suspension. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min, and then heated in a 50° C. oil bath for 1 hr. The reaction was quenched with water (30 mL) and extracted with ether (3×60 mL). The ether extracts were washed with water (3×15 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, and concentrated in vacuo to give the product as a white solid (2.1 g, 81%).
