A mixture of 4,6-dichloropyrimidine (Aldrich, 1.48 g, 10.0 mmol), 2,4,6-trimethoxybenzylamine hydrochloride (2.33 g, 10.0 mmol), DIPEA (4.8 mL, 27.7 mmol), and n-BuOH (50 mL) was heated at 100° C. for 2 h. The mixture was cooled, diluted with water (200 mL) and the precipitated product was collected by vacuum filtration on a Büchner funnel. The product was washed with cold water, ether, and vacuum dried to give an off-white solid (2.8 g, 90%). 1H NMR (DMSO-d6) δ 8.28 (s, 1H), 7.38 (s, 1H), 6.49 (s, 1H), 6.25 (s, 2H), 4.34 (s, 2H), 3.77 (s, 9H).
