To a solution of 3-(4-bromo-3,5-dimethylphenyl)propan-1-ol (250 mg) in dichloromethane (5 mL) is added at 0° C. 1,1-dihydro-1,1,1-triacetoxy-1,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-on (Dess-Martin periodinan, 2.7 mL of a 15% solution in dichloromethane). The mixture is stirred for 12 hours at room temperature, cooled to 0° C. and 1,1-dihydro-1,1,1-triacetoxy-1,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-on (Dess-Martin periodinan, 1.6 mL of a 15% solution in dichloromethane) is added. After stirring for 4 hours isopropanol (5 mL) is added, the mixture is stirred for 15 minutes and the solvents are evaporated in vacuo. The residue is chromatographed on silica gel (cyclohexane/ethyl acetate 99:1→70:30) to give the title compound. Yield: 120 mg; LC (method 8): tR=0.38 min; Mass spectrum (ESI−): m/z=239 [M−H]−.
