A mixture of 2-bromo-5-iodo-1,3-dimethyl-benzene (0.28 g), 2-thiazolylzinc bromide (0.5 mol/L in tetrahydrofuran; 1.9 mL), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (52 mg), and tetrahydrofuran (5 mL) under argon atmosphere is stirred at 100° C. for 3 h. After cooling to room temperature, water is added and the resulting mixture is extracted with ethyl acetate. The solvent is evaporated and the residue is chromatographed on silica gel (cyclohexane/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound. LC (method 9): tR=1.19 min; Mass spectrum (ESI+): m/z=268/270 (Br) [M+H]+.
