Procedure

A solution of 800 mg (4 mmol) 2,4-bis(methylthio)-3-amino-6-methylpyridine and 0.4 ml (2.3 mmol) trichloromethyl chloroformate in 20 ml anhydrous dioxane was refluxed under nitrogen overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled and filtered and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness in vacuo yielding 730 mg of the title compound (81% yield) as a tan colored solid.
