Procedure

A suspension of 4-(6-propionylaminomethylpyridin-2-yl)-2-thioureidothiazole (14.67 g) and methyl iodide (7.77 g) in methanol (300 ml) was refluxed for 3 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was crystallized from ethyl acetate to afford 2-[(amino)(methylthio)methyleneamino]-4-(6-propionylaminomethylpyridin-2-yl)thiazole hydriodide (13.68 g).
