A mixture comprising N-{(3aR,4S,6R,6aS)-6-[2-((R)-3-amino-pyrrolidin-1-yl)-6-(2,2-diphenyl-ethylamino)-purin-9-yl]-2,2-dimethyl-tetrahydro-cyclopenta[1,3]dioxol-4-yl}-propionamide (Intermediate M) (0.24 g, 394 μmol) and CDI (0.275 g, 1.7 mmol) in dry DCM (6 ml) is stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The resulting solution is purified by chromatography on silica eluting with 100% DCM changing to 5% MeOH in DCM to afford the title compound as a yellow oil. The oil consists of the imidazole-urea intermediate together with variable amounts of the corresponding isocyanate and imidazole which are equally suitable as precursors to ureas.
