Procedure

3-Chloroperoxybenzoic acid (4.52 g, 26.2 mmol) was added to a solution of 2,6-bis-(2,2,2-trifluoro-ethyl)-pyridine (4.25 g, 17.5 mmol) in CHCl3 (70 mL). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours and then quenched with satd Na2SO3. The layers were separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic layers were washed with 1 N NaOH, brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to a yellow oil. Purification by flash column chromatography (0% to 50% EtOAc in hexanes) gave the product as a yellow solid (2.65 g, 58%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 3.96 (q, J=10.4 Hz, 4 H), 7.27 (t, J=8.1 Hz, 1 H), 7.47 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 2H).
