Acetyl chloride (0.91 mL, 12.8 mmol) followed by triethylamine (1.8 mL, 12.8 mmol) were added to a stirred solution of 4-bromo-2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)phenol (2.55 g, 10.7 mmol) dissolved in CH2Cl3 (20 mL). The reaction was stirred for 45 mins and then partitioned between 1N HCl and EtOAc. The organic layer was washed with saturated NaHCO3, brine dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated. Purification by flash column chromatography (0% to 20% EtOAc in hexanes) gave the product as a clear oil (2.50 g). LCMS: apci 297 MH+
