Procedure
A solution of 2-(1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]dec-8-yl)-malononitrile (as prepared in the previous step, 0.207 g, 1.00 mmol) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (Aldrich, 0.107 g, 1.54 mmol) in anhydrous pyridine (5 mL) were heated to 100° C. under a reflux condenser for 18 h. After cooling to ambient temperature and evaporation of the solvent in vacuo, the crude product was purified by thin layer chromatography on silica gel (10% methanol in dichloromethane) giving the title compound as an orange solid.
