5-(Diphenylmethyl)-1-[3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)propyl]pyridin-2(1H)-one (1 g) in EtOH (20 mL) was added dioxoplatinum (70 mg) at ambient temperature and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 day under hydrogen atmosphere. The mixture was filtered through a bed of celite. The filtrate was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane:EtOAc=1:3) to afford 5-(diphenylmethyl)-1-[3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)propyl]piperidin-2-one (550 mg) as a yellow oil.
