A solution of boronic acid 4 (1.95 g, 4.99 mmol) in DCM (20 mL) is treated with DIPEA (1.04 mL, 5.98 mmol), followed by 3-chlorobenzo[b]thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride (1.38 g, 5.98 mmol) in one portion. The resulting solution is stirred 16 h at RT. LC/MS at this juncture showed the reaction had reached completion. The reaction mixture is washed with water (3×10 mL) and brine (1×10 mL). The organic layer is dried over MgSO4 and the solvent removed in vacuo to afford the title compound.
