Reaction Steps
A solution of 5 g (24.6 mmol) 3-bromo-4-fluoro-benzaldehyde in 20 ml anhydrous methanol is mixed in portions with 1.38 g (36.58 mmol) sodium borohydride while stirring and stirred for another hour at room temperature. After adding water, an extraction is carried out using diethyl ether, and the organic phase is dried over sodium sulfate. After the solvent is removed under vacuum, the appropriate alcohol is obtained. The product is obtained in pure form and can be used for further reactions.
