The benzyl ester from Step 8 (1 g, 2.1 mmol) in ethyl acetate (10 mL) was degassed with nitrogen for 10 minutes. 10% Palladium on activated carbon (0.2 g, 0.2 mmol) was added and the solution was sparged with hydrogen via balloon. The balloon of hydrogen was maintained on the head space and the solution stirred for 1.5 hours. The reaction was diluted with ethanol and actone (to solubilize the product), filtered through celite and evaporated to yield 700 mg product.
