A mixture of 50 mg of methyl 3-[(2-fluorobenzyl)oxy]-5-(1H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-1-yl)thiophene-2-carboxylate and 15 ml of a saturated solution of ammonia in methanol is stirred in a microwave vial at 125° C. for 4 h in the microwave cavity. The reaction mixture is concentrated to dryness, the resulting residue is recrystallized from 5 ml ethanol to yield the title compound.
