Procedure

1,2-Diethenyltetrafluoroethane (1 g, 6.5 mmol) and 4 mg of hydrogen hexachloroplatinate (IV) hydrate were dissolved in dried CH2Cl2 (15 mL). Trichlorosilane (10 mL, 9.9 mmol) was added dropwise to the stirred solution. The reaction mixture was heated at 40° C. overnight, followed by removal of excess HSiCl3 and solvent by vacuum evaporation. The crude product was recovered in a yield of greater than about 96% (2.6 g). 1H NMR (400 Mz, CDCl3): δ 2.4 (m, 4H), 1.4 (m, 4H). 29Si NMR (CDCl3): 14.1 (s). 19F NMR (CDCl3): −115.1 (t, J=12 Hz, 4F).
