To N-{3-[(Z)-2-(2-chloro-4-pyrimidinyl)-1-hydroxyethenyl]phenyl}-2,6-difluorobenzenesulfonamide (2.0 g, 4.72 mmol) in 40 mL of DMA was added NBS (0.88 g, 4.95 mmol). The mixture stirred at room temperature for 30 min. Thiourea (0.36 g, 4.72 mmol) as added and the mixture heated to 80° C. for 1 h. The mixture was poured into 300 mL of ice water and the product was collected by filtration. The crude product was then purified by flash chromatography to give the title compound of Step A (1.61 g, 3.35 mmol, 67.5% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ ppm 11.05 (s, 1H), 8.16 (d, J=5.5 Hz, 1H), 7.94 (s, 2H), 7.64-7.75 (m, 1H), 7.37 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 7.16-7.29 (m, 5H), 6.52 (d, J=5.6 Hz, 1H).
