Procedure
To a slurry of 1.4 g (3.3 mmole) 2-(2-chloro-5-(4-chloro-1-methyl-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)-4-fluorophenoxy)-propanoic acid, ethyl ester in 50 mL water and 30 mL 1,4-dioxane was added 1.3 mL (3.3 mmole) of a 10% NaOH solution. After 30 minutes, the solution was cooled and the pH adjusted to 3 with concentrated HCl. The reaction mixture was extracted with diethyl ether. The ether solution was washed with water, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was recrystallized from methylcyclohexane to give 1.3 g (100%) of 2-(2-chloro-5-(4-chloro-1-methyl-5-(tri-fluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)-4-fluorophenoxy)propanoic acid as a white solid, mp 150°-151° C.
