2.55 g (18 mmol) of 3-methoxy-3-methyl-2-oximinobutyronitrile, 3.72 g of potassium carbonate and 3.8 g (18 mmol) of 4-chloromethyl-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-oxazole in 36 ml of dry 2:1 acetone/dimethylformamide are stirred for 1 hour at 45° C. and then for 12 hours at room temperature. Working up by a method similar to that stated in Example 1 and chromatographing of the crude product over silica gel using 5:1 cyclohexane/methyl tert-butyl ether give 5.4 g (95% of theory) of the title compound as a crystalline solid.
