Procedure
0.1 mol (28.6 g) of N-(4-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)-5-methylisoxazole-4-carboxamide is dissolved in 100 ml of ethanol and a solution of 0.11 mol (4.4 g) of sodium hydroxide solution in 100 ml of water is added at 20° C. The mixture is stirred for 30 minutes and acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid after diluting with water. The precipitated crystal magma is filtered off with suction, washed with water and dried in the air. 27.7 g (9.1% of theory) of N-(4-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)-2-cyano-3-hydroxycrotonamide of melting point 171°-176° C. (from ethanol) are thus obtained.
