15.5 gm of 4-(3'-nitro-4'-isobutyrylamino-phenyl)-4-oxo-butyric acid methylester were hydrogenated with 4 gm of palladized coal in 480 ml of ethanol at room temperature and 5 atmospheres pressure. The mixture was then suction-filtered, the filter cake was taken up in hot ethanol, the mixturewas filtered, and the reaction product was allowed to crystallize out of the filtrate; m.p. 178° C.
