Procedure
To a solution of 2-(2-(diethylamino)ethyl)-2H(1)benzothiopyrano[4,3,2-cd]indazole-5-methanol (0.18 g.) in acetone (3 ml.) was added 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide (0.21 ml.) and the mixture left overnight at room temperature. Evaporation under reduced pressure and crystallization from ethanol-ethyl acetate gave 2-(2-(diethylamino)ethyl)-2H(1)benzothiopyrano[4,3,2-cd]indazole-5-methanol N-oxide one-third hydrate which melted at 142°-143° (decomp.).
