A mixture of methyl 2-(2-nitro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzoate (12.7 g, 0.0373 mol) was dissolved in ethyl acetate (200 ml) and 10% palladium on carbon was added under argon. The mixture was hydrogenated in a parr bottle at 55 psi for three hours. The mixture was diluted with chloroform, filtered through Celite® and the filtrate evaporated. The residue was flash chromatographed (silica gel, ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound.
