Procedure
Using the procedure of Example 9, 5.6 g of the carbonitrile from Example 5 was alkylated with 6.35 g of 1-bromooctane to give 9.1 g (96.4%) of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-8,8-dimethyl-9-octyl-9H-dibenzo[b,d]pyrrole-3-carbonitrile as a yellow oil. This material was used without purification.
