Using the procedure of Example 9, 2.9 g of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-octyl-6-phenylmethoxy-9H-dibenzo[b,d]pyrrole from Example 62 was alkylated with 1.68 g of 1-bromooctane to produce 2.3 g (61.7%) of rac-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,9-dioctyl-6-phenylmethoxy-9H-dibenzo[b,d]pyrrole as a yellow oil after chromatographic purification.
