Procedure

To a solution of 3-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propylphenoxy)propyl bromide (J. Med. Chem. 29, 1573-1576, 1986) (315 mg) and the phenol of Step 1 (242 mg) in acetonitrile (5 mL) was added cesium carbonate (650 mg) and the mixture was heated to reflux for 5 hrs. The suspension was cooled to 25° C. and poured into 25% aqueous NH4OAc and EtOAc. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried with MgSO4 and the solvents are removed in vacuo. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel using EtOAc and hexanes (1:2) to yield the title compound.
