To a solution of L-valine methyl ester hydrochloride (2.6 g) and triethylamine (1.6 g) in chloroform (30 mL) was added 2,4-dimethoxybenzyl isocyanate (3.0 g), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. After the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure, the residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel cartridge, hexane/ethyl acetate) to afford methyl N-[(2,4-dimethoxybenzyl)carbamoyl]-L-valinate (4.2 g).
