Procedure

To a solution of benzyl 2-(bicyclo[1.1.1]pentan-1-yl)-7-oxo-2,4,6,7-tetrahydrospiro[indazole-5,4′-piperidine]-1′-carboxylate (150 mg, 0.37 mmol) in ethyl acetate (10 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (1 mg) and 1-methylcyclohexane-1,4-diene (0.1 mL, 0.9 mmol). The reaction was heated to 80° C. and stirred for 2 hours. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and filtered through Celite. The filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound (100 mg, 100%) as an oil. +ESI (M+H) 272.4; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3, δ): 7.26 (s, 1 H), 2.82 (dd, J=6.63, 4.49 Hz, 4 H), 2.69 (s, 2 H), 2.60 (s, 1 H), 2.56 (s, 2 H), 2.30 (s, 6 H), 1.47-1.55 (m, 4 H).
