A mixture of 2-amino-5-iodobenzoic acid (125 g, 475 mmol) and formamide (200 mL) was heated to 190° C. for 2 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was poured into water (500 mL) and stirred for 2 hours. The solids were filtered and dried under high vacuum to provide the product (108 g, 83%).
