Procedure
To a suspension of 4-amino-5-(cyclohexyloxy)-2-methylquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (Example H, 1.0 g, 3.33 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) was added 1.25 M solution of HCl in ethanol (2.93 mL, 3.66 mmol). The clear solution was stirred for 30 minutes and evaporated to dryness to provide 4-amino-5-(cyclohexyloxy)-2-methylquinoline-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride (1.12 g, 100%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 1.30 (m, 1H), 1.39-1.47 (m, 2H), 1.53-1.72 (m, 5H), 2.01-2.05 (m, 2H), 2.82 (s, 3H), 4.78-4.82 (m, 1H), 7.29-7.31 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.61-7.63 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.82 (t, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 9.30 (bs, 1H), 9.93 (bs, 1H). MS 301 (MH+−HCl).
