Procedure
A mixture of 1,1-dimethylethyl 7-(6-amino-5-nitropyridin-3-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazepine-4(5H)-carboxylate (3.5 g, 9.1 mmol, example 26, step 1) in methanol (75 mL) and 4N hydrogen chloride in dioxane (11 mL) was stirred at 50° C. for 1.5 h and then concentrated. The resulting residue was triturated with a 10% methanol in diethyl ether solution (50 mL) to provide 3-nitro-5-(2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepin-7-yl)pyridin-2-amine dihydrochloride (3.1 g, 95%) as a red solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, d6-DMSO) δ 9.76 (bs, 2H), 8.80 (d, 1H), 8.60 (s, 1H), 7.90 (s, 1H), 7.73 (dd, 1H), 7.16 (d, 1H), 4.39 (bs, 2H), 4.25 (bs, 2H), 3.48 (bs, 2H); MS (EI) for C14H14N4O3: 287 (MH+).
