Procedure
28.7 g of 4-(2-chloro-2-methyl-propanoyl)-benzophenone and 5.4 g of sodium methoxide are boiled in 120 ml of methanol for 4 hours. After cooling, the mixture is filtered, the filtrate is evaporated and water is added to the residue. The mixture is extracted with ether and, after drying and evaporating the combined extracts, 4-(2methoxy-2-methyl-propanoyl)-benzophenone is obtained as a viscous oil.
