Reaction Steps

A solution of 18.8 g of trans-4-propylcyclohexanecarbonyl chloride in 20 ml of toluene was added dropwise to a solution of 18.8 of 4'-fluoro-4-hydroxybiphenyl and 8 g of pyridine in 25 ml of toluene and the mixture was heated, with stirring, at 80° for 20 hours. After cooling down water was added, the phases were separated, the organic phase was washed, evaporated and 4'-fluorobiphenyl-4-yl trans-4-propylcyclohexanecarboxylate was obtained, m.p. 96°, c.p. 174°.
