Procedure
The crude product produced in Example III is dissolved in 6 ml of acetic acid with 0.1 g of sodium iodide. By GLC analysis on Carbowax (polyethylene glycol) it is clear that the 1,1-dimethoxy-cis-3-hexene-2-one is converted to a new material of later retention time. After one-half hour, less than 5% of "cis" material remains.
