A solution of 33.3 g of N-benzyl-3-(4'-fluoro-4-biphenylyl)-1-butylamine [obtainable by reacting 3-(4'-fluoro-4-biphenylyl)-butanol with SOCl2 ] to give 1-chloro-3-(4'-fluoro-4-biphenylyl)-butane and reaction with benzylamine in 500 ml of methanol is hydrogenated over 8 g of 5% Pd-on-charcoal at 20° and normal pressure. After filtration and evaporation, 3-(4'-fluoro-4-biphenylyl)-butylamine is obtained. Hydrochloride, m.p. 222°-224°.
