A mixture of 2-bromo-1-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethanone (5.34 g), N-propylthiourea (2.60 g) and ethanol (50 mL) was stirred for 1 hr while heating under reflux. The reaction mixture was cooled and diluted with isopropyl ether. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration, washed with isopropyl ether and dried to give the title compound (5.11 g, yield 70%) as colorless crystals.
