To a solution of 7-methyl-4-(2-methyl-1,3-thiazol-4-yl)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-7-carboxylate (840 mg, 2.79 mmol) in THF (40 mL) a solution of lithium hydroxide (14 mL, 14.0 mmol) was added. The solution was then heated at 65° C. for 1.5 hours. After cooling, THF was removed under reduced pressure and 2N HCl (8.6 mL, 17.2 mmol) was added. After 1 h stirring, the solid formed was collected by filtration to afford the title compound. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DSMO-d6): 13.6 (bs, 1H), 8.40 (d, 1H), 8.32 (s, 1H), 7.91 (d, 1H), 7.89 (s, 1H), 6.86 (s, 1H), 2.82 (s, 3H).
