Procedure

Bromine (0.698 g, 4.37 mmol) was added to a solution of 1 (1.80 g, 4.16 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (15 mL). After stirring overnight at room temperature, the mixture was neutralized with saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×20 mL). The organic layers were combined, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo (1.90 g, 89%). 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 7.02 (d, 1H, 2J=3.7 Hz), 6.97 (d, 1H, 2J=3.8 Hz), 5.46-5.38 (m, 1H), 2.64 (d, 1H, 2J=5.2 Hz); HRMS (EI, 70 eV) m/z: calcd (M+) for C11H4F13BrOS, 509.90; found, 509.8945.
