Reaction Steps

To a solution of 2 (1.094 g, 4.48 mmol) in CHCl3 (10 mL) at 40° C. was added Br2 (0.23 mL, 4.477 mmol) dropwise over 15 minutes. The reaction was left to stir for 30 minutes. The resulting solution was concentrated and purified with silica gel chromatography eluding with hexanes-EtOAc (9:1). The reaction provided 3 (1.212 g, 3.75 mmol, 84%) as an orange liquid.
